About Us

History, Awards and Legacy
Founding Story:
In 2000, Franco Esposito stood on Malindi's sun-kissed coastline and imagined a place where Italian elegance and Kenyan warmth could coexist. He built Woburn Residence Club not just as a resort, but as a home for wanderers and dreamers—a sanctuary where guests could sip espresso on private terraces, swim in a mosaic pool under baobab trees, and fall asleep to the rhythm of the Indian Ocean. It became Kenya's first luxury apartment resort, where "stay" blurred into "belong."
Awards:
In 2002, Woburn Residence Club made history as the first Kenyan property to win the International Award for Tourist, Hotel, and Catering Industry, presented by the Trade Leaders Club in Madrid, Spain. This wasn't just a trophy—it was global recognition of our bold idea to merge vacation stays with residential ownership long before it became trendy. Judges praised Woburn for "redefining coastal living," where guests could sip espresso on their private terraces by morning and swap stories with full-time residents by sunset.

-
Generational ownership:
Apartments are passed down like heirlooms, with deeds as enduring as the baobab trees shading our courtyards. -
No transient vibes:
Unlike hotels, our staff (some here for 20+ years) know owners by name, coffee orders, and which safari guides they prefer.
Our Mission Statement:
We blend the soul of Swahili hospitality with timeless Italian craftsmanship, creating spaces that welcome adventure and nurture roots.
